Located in Lexington, Kentucky just off the 421 Bypass at Richmond Road.  I knew I wanted to eat lunch when I got off the plane the other day, so I just opened Google Maps to do a little research.  Think I just typed in ‘lunch near Lexington, KY’ and upon seeing Crust, I thought that I need more pizza in my life!  (Only the 4th pizza the last 2 weeks!)

Environment

The dining area was made up of wood and metal wood table and chairs with booths against the windows.  Somewhat rustic and comfortable.  In addition there was a nice wine rack with a small selection of wines, chalkboard walls with different drawings, some of which are quite unique.

Now, what good pizza place doesn’t have a wood fired brick oven?  This one was nice and toasty, cooking delicious pizza all day long!  I think I need one of these in my house!

Attendance

Corey did a great job. Thanks for recommending the Dante. I was also offered a free dessert as a first time guest, but I reluctantly turned it down as the pizza was more than filling.

Chew

Bread stick and Marinara

The bread stick was coated with parmesan, red pepper flakes and olive oil, then toasted in the brick oven.  This was much better than I anticipated, upon seeing.  The red pepper added a nice kick and the marinara was nice and savory.

Wood-Charred Pizza

Dante – arrabiata, spicy pork sausage, fresh mozzarella and balsamico

First, let’s start with the dough.  A nice char around the edges and on the bottom.  Thicker and a little doughy, thus nice and chewy.  Has a great flavor.

I love savory red sauce and the Arraboata did not disappoint.  So glad it wasn’t sweet.  The sausage wasn’t overly spicy and went well with the sauce, mozzarella and parmesan.  The balsamico really stood out on the crust

So simple, yet so good!

Endorsement

Overall, I would happily come to Crust again and highly recommend, that is if you like good pizza!  The pizza was tasty.  The service and setting were pleasing.

Tip Top Chew

Hi!  I’m James, single dad of two awesome kids (Kennedy and Boyd) who often join me in my journey of finding great places to dine.  I started Tip Top Chew as a hobby on Facebook back in 2015 and Instagram in early 2018.  It’s a something I enjoy even though I get made fun of sometimes when I break out the camera to take pictures of my food!  🙂

My goal with this blog, is to be able to share a bit more of my creative side and to grow stronger relationships with my kids as we venture out and share together.  We’re starting a segment called Chewing with Dad to help us to get away from our phones while out so that we might enjoy each other’s company more as we discuss our adventures,  Then we all write down our thoughts.  I’m really looking forward to this process!
