 Tip Top Chew

Throwback Thursday:  November 2015

So in honor of hitting 1000 Likes on Facebook, I thought I’d do a little something different for the blog.  Basically, it’s just a look back over time in the life of Tip Top Chew, through our Facebook Page, where it all began.

2015 10_1

I always enjoy looking back to see what all has changed.  Some places are still awesome as ever and some are now no longer with us.

I hope you all enjoy it.

And here is, Tip Top Chew’s first trip to Deluca’s in Hot Springs.  The Benny Biggs is still my favorite pizza of all time!  It’s been a while and seeing this definitely makes me want to head that direction soon!  As always, I’m sure I left with a white flour handprint on my shoulder!!!

Can’t say enough about Big Orange and I simply love this Turkey Burger in November.  Kids and I love going here.  This, I believe is the location in West Little Rock.

When I look at some of these pictures, I wonder why I haven’t been back to a lot of restaurants.  It’s been 5 years?  What?  Back in the day, we were ‘forced’ to go to lunch with co-workers every Tuesday.  We deemed it ‘Tuesday Work Lunch’ and we voted on the location.  Quite contentious at times and I always pushed for somewhere different.  I really need to make another trip to Cotham’s In The City.  Burgers, Catfish and so much more!

To me, El Porton has forever been my favorite traditional Mexican Restaurant in Little Rock.  I definitely ate there often when I lived in West Little Rock.

Aww, the first of what I suspect to be a long list of restaurants that are no longer in business.  The Tavern Sports Grill was always a great place for Tuesday Work Lunch and Sunday afternoon football.

November 10, 2015

I haven’t thought of this since, but I guess it never took, at least here in AR.  I can’t think of any other states where I’ve been that don’t all for tipping of servers.  I’ve seen lots, especially as of late, on the net wages of restaurant employees and it makes me wonder how they can afford to feed their families.  Tipping is essential for them to be able to make it.  I always try to tip at least 20% and then more when the service is exceptional.

I told you that I went to El Porton often.  Easy for lunch and was just around the corner from the house!  Always delicious!

And another lunch from The Tavern.  Pretty awesome lunch special and I do believe the Burger and Fries where the Tuesday special.

Can you say El Porton!  Lunch Fajitas were and still are so good!

November 20, 2015

Not a lot of chain restaurants on Tip Top Chew, but this was when Newk’s in West Little Rock first opened.  Great salads!  Unfortunately, this location didn’t make it through the Coronavirus.

November 20, 2015

I loved going to Pie Five Pizza.  I think of it as a Subway for pizza.  The kids and I love going to the one in Saline County.  There’s only a handful of chain pizza places that I like and this is one of them!

November 21, 2015

You have got to love Le Pops in the winter.  The best Hot Chocolate and Smores.  The popsicles are pretty good too!

Another trip to Big Orange.  Top-notch burgers in Little Rock!

Again, it is fun to reminisce, especially about food!

Tip Top Chew

Hi!  I’m James, single dad of two awesome kids (Kennedy and Boyd), who sometimes join me in my journey of finding great places to dine.  I started Tip Top Chew as a hobby on Facebook back in 2015 and Instagram in early 2018.  It’s something I enjoy, even though others occasionally make fun of me when I break out the camera to take pictures of our food!  🙂

My goal with this blog is to be able to share a bit more of my creative side while growing stronger relationships with my kids as we venture out and share together.  We’re starting a segment called Chewing with Dad in the hopes to get away from our phones and enjoy each other’s company a little more.  We discuss our adventures, then we write it all down and hopefully it turns into something worth reading.  I’m really looking forward to this process!
