Throwback Thursday: January 2016

Throwback Thursday:  January 2016

So in honor of hitting 1000 Likes on Facebook, I thought I’d do a little something different for the blog.  Basically, it’s just a look back over time in the life of Tip Top Chew, through our Facebook Page, where it all began.  Our goal is to come out with a new blog every week with a Tip Top Chew Throwback Thursday!  (Hopefully on Thursday! 🙂 )

2015 10_1

I always enjoy looking back to see what all has changed.  Some places are still awesome as ever and some are now no longer with us.

I hope you all enjoy it.

Sheesh, I haven’t been to Heights Taco & Tamale in such a long time.  I need to head that way again.  I love their skillet nachos.  I remember this drink being the Tip Top Chew logo for a while.

Not big on chain restaurants, but Hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts simply melt in your mouth.  Sadly, here’s another restaurant that hasn’t made it.  Maybe if the rest of their donuts were as good as the hot glazed, they would have made it!

Obviously, J. Gumbo was good and close to where I worked and lived at the time.  I’m sure my move was the reason for their demise!

January 23, 2016

Well, this was my very first and still my favorite of all of the Honey Pies.  I remember this was before them opening the shop on Bowman and Sharon sold these little masterpieces out of here house in SWLR.  I got it home and totally fell in love!  Not exactly sure what has happened to Honey Pies, but my understanding is that they were sold to Blue Cake and are now called Blue Cake Honey Pies.  Maybe if anyone knows, they can fill us in, in the comments.

I don’ really the reason, but we were over on Main Street south of I-630 and there was Boulevard Bread, which at the time according to Facebook was known as Boulevard Bake House and Market.  Love their sandwiches and tend to eat at this location when that way for lunch!

And here we are into 2016.  Looks like I didn’t make it to that many places after the holidays.  I probably was still full of Christmas dinner!

Tip Top Chew

Hi!  I’m James, single dad of two awesome kids (Kennedy and Boyd), who sometimes join me in my journey of finding great places to dine.  I started Tip Top Chew as a hobby on Facebook back in 2015 and Instagram in early 2018.  It’s something I enjoy, even though others occasionally make fun of me when I break out the camera to take pictures of our food!  🙂

My goal with this blog is to be able to share a bit more of my creative side while growing stronger relationships with my kids as we venture out and share together.  We’re starting a segment called Chewing with Dad in the hopes to get away from our phones and enjoy each other’s company a little more.  We discuss our adventures, then we write it all down and hopefully it turns into something worth reading.  I’m looking forward to this process!
